Art I Color Scheme Designs

We took advantage of a rather nice morning weather wise and headed outside to gather different varieties of leaf types for a color scheme project the students were about to begin. We spent two weeks working on various color schemes and as their culminating activity they were to choose a single scheme to use in their projects.

Art IV Paintings on Masonite

Bryan, Joe and Adam did some great work with acrylics on masonite. Adams piece hasn't been loaded to the site just yet. I have to email the photo of his work to home first and then I can get it loaded. Love to see them so enthusiastic about their projects!!

WHY DO ART?

Art helps us understand other subjects much more clearly- from math to science, to language arts and geography. It improves academic achievement.

Art nurtures inventiveness as it engages us in a process that aids in the development of self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation and self-motivation.

Art is a link to the past. It's a fun way to examine history.

Art encourages imagination. It shows students how they might express their own feelings and experiences through painting and drawing.

Art provides us with opportunities to create and DO, which can be a refreshing break from lecture and study.

Art is Necessary

The arts have helped prepare MIT students in business. An alumnus at a large New York accounting firm recently stated at an MIT alumni meeting that his firm interviews about forty MIT students every year. Of the ten they recently hired, four presented minors in the arts. The latter fact so significantly set these candidates apart from the others in terms of creative thinking, flexibility and presentation that the firm is now using the arts minor as a screening criterion
